The Hilda Chisi Foundation was born out of one woman’s unshakable faith, unwavering compassion, and relentless belief that no life is beyond redemption when given the right tools, opportunities, and love.

Hilda Bowa Chisi’s journey began in Malawi, where she grew up without her biological parents. From a young age, she learned the resilience that comes from hardship and the comfort that comes from faith in Christ. Her personal conviction was simple yet profound: every person is destined to succeed if they are equipped with the right tools, guided with love, and supported through life’s toughest seasons.

For Hilda, charity was never about tossing help from a distance. It was about walking alongside people, holding their hands until they could stand, walk, and run on their own. She embodied this principle in her own home—together with her husband, she took in and raised orphans using their personal finances. In doing so, she came to understand a truth that would shape the rest of her life’s work: an orphan needs more than a roof over their head—they need a loving, stable home where they are seen, valued, and nurtured.

Her heart burned with indignation at the continuous exploitation of young girls, the cultural barriers that robbed them of education, and the countless opportunities denied to them. One encounter marked her deeply: a young girl once told her, “I can achieve great things but…” before tears rolled down her cheeks. Those tears spoke louder than words—of the mountains she would have to climb, the doors slammed shut before she could even knock. From that day, Hilda was on a personal crusade to fight for girls like her, to give them the “but” breaker—opportunity.

Her compassion extended to single mothers struggling to raise their children in the crushing cycle of poverty, desperate for financial independence yet trapped by lack of opportunity. Hilda began creating pathways for these women to build dignified livelihoods.

In 1999, in Mzuzu, Malawi, she founded Hands for Purpose, a small but powerful initiative to teach practical skills and restore dignity. Life’s journey would take her to Blantyre and later to the UK, and though that work was interrupted, her dream never faded—it only deepened.

Hilda’s life on earth has ended, but her vision beats strongly in the heart of the Hilda Chisi Foundation. Today, we carry forward her mission—to empower dreams, restore dignity, and transform lives. We stand determined to break cycles of poverty, open doors of education, and build communities where no child is left behind, no girl is silenced, and no mother walks alone.
